After looking at many sketches, and after discussions with the director and design team, a white model is created at 1/2 inch scale:

After continued tweaking of the design, the actual construction begins and the wooden frames are constructed and put in place onstage:

Next, a coat of base paint is applied to the whole set.  Following that, the first paint treatments are applied:

Then, the next round of paint happens.  Right now, the set looks like this as we head into Tech Week:
